When 16 Air Assault Brigade was formed by merging 24 Airborne Brigade and 5th Airborne Brigade in 1999, there was some reluctance to drop the 5th Airborne’s Pegasus symbol in favour of the new striking eagle symbol. However, the change went ahead and after some fundraising the change was marked with the installation of a ‘striking eagle’ statue at the Merville Barracks in Colchester.
Open green spaces are good for our mind and body. Fields in Trust is a charitable organisation dedicated to the protection of such green spaces.
There are many hidden gems throughout the capital of London. Not man made, but rather areas of natural beauty. Many of these are overgrown and suffering from man-made pollution.
Glenbrook in Enfield is one such area.
Or rather Yoko Ono and John Lennon, as John was merely the backing band for a concert held at the Lady Mitchell Hall at the University of Cambridge.

In 2014 the UK Government launched a 4 year scheme to honour recipients of the Victoria Cross who served in the First World War. The first of these paving stones was laid in East Grinstead. From August 2014 until November 2018, a total of 469 stones will be laid throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, in memory of the brave young men who went above and beyond the call of duty to protect our nation with incomprehensible acts of valour.
I have been on holiday this week to Northern Italy. It was very nice and a pleasant experience, if a little hot in the middle of the day, much more so than what we get in Suffolk.
The Italians are famous for their stone work and whilst there I thought I would check out the main cemetery in Milan. For anyone who is interested in stone work, it’s absolutely incredible. The Italians spend a lot more money honouring their dead than we do in the UK.
