Here at the SSC we have recently completed another of these commemorative pavers.

The Victoria Cross is the highest award that can be bestowed to member of the armed forces for gallantry “in the presence of the enemy”.

This one is to commemorate Thomas Pride, who, in 1864 was 29 years of age and serving with the Royal Navy .

Thomas carried the Queen’s Colour into battle. He kept the colour flying despite heavy fire, which injured him. He only stopped on direct orders from his superior officer.
